EVACUATION ROUTE
CLEARING PROJECT
by Sandi Bush
Work will begin soon to make
the designated evacuation routes in Grizzly Flats safer to use during
a fire emergency.
The Request For
Proposal (RFP) will soon be published by the El Dorado County Fire
Safe Council, in order to receive contractor bids on the project that
will be paid for by the $ 277,650 Federal Grant that the Grizzly
Flats Fire Safe Council (GFFSC) received last year.
Property owners
along the evacuation routes (see map) will soon be receiving letters
from the GFFSC requesting written permission to remove brush and prune
trees along the road side. A detailed Statement of Work is included
in the mailing so that property owners will know what is being
requested. This work will be done at no cost to the property
owners.
Property owners
can get a good idea of how their property should look after the work
is completed by viewing the demonstration lot located at 10020 Grizzly
Flat Road. Look for the big white sign with red letters: EVACUATION
ROUTE DEMONSTRATION AREA.
A second
demonstration area has been completed on the corner of Sciaroni and
Capps Crossing and is identified by the same sign.
Our thanks to
Norma and Dick Dawdy and Bob Kreig for allowing the use of their
property for these demonstration areas and to volunteers from the
GFFSC for doing the work.
The goal of the
GFFSC is to make Grizzly Flats a fire safe community by protecting
lives and property. This can only be accomplished with the help of
the community! We ask those property owners who receive the mailing
to please return the signed agreement as soon as possible.
