You Might Be a Grizzly
Flats Veteran If... …you jumped off the rope swing into Porters' pond...or remember the rope swing ...you've had a drink at Buck's Bar ...you own more than an acre of land ...you can tell someone wistfully where "The Lodge" used to be ...you aren't driving around like mad the day after the first snow trying to buy wood ...your house doesn't have house numbers on it ...you still have your wooden plot number ...you've collected your mail from the rafters of the post office ...you've lost power for days during a snow storm ...you not only know how each road got its name, but went to school with the person for whom they were named ...you remember saying, "There goes the neighborhood" when you heard Grizzly Park was being built ...you have friends and relatives buried in the Grizzly Flat cemetery ...you attended Mountain School or Willow School ...you complain about how bad the traffic is in Placerville ...you have no goals regarding how fast or how slow you drive up or down the mountain ...you know the score in the battle of motorcycles versus the mountains ...when you ask someone where they live, you really mean, "Who's house did you buy?" ...you remember when Logan's Grade was the main drag ...you know the route the Pony Express took to deliver mail here ...you know what it means when someone asks, "But what happened to the $100,000?" ...you know if it's "Grizzly Flats" or "Grizzly Flat" but don't really care
