Where to Go For Help

Local Food Banks 

1.  The Seventh Day Adventist Church at 6831 Mother Lode Drive off of Missouri Flats Road in Placerville distributes food every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.  Call (530) 622-2446 for more information. This church is a distribution site for the El Dorado County Food Bank. 

2.  The Green Valley Community Church at 3500 Missouri Flat Road in Placerville.  Call (530) 622-3231 for more information.  This church is a distribution site for the El Dorado County Food Bank. 

3.  The Pioneer Bible Church at 6851 Mount Aukum Road in Somerset distributes food every Friday starting at noon and every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.  Call (530) 620-4859 for more information.  This church is a food distribution site for the El Dorado County Food Bank. 

4.  Grizzly Flats Community Food Pantry distributes food beginning at noon at the Grizzly Flats Community Church parking lot at 5061 Sciaroni Road on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  This Food Pantry is not affiliated with any church or food distribution program. 

Financial Assistance 

1.  The El Dorado County Department of Human Services is located at 937 Spring Street in Placerville.  Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday (530) 621-6150.  Services provided include; 

            Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LI-HEAP)   Receive an annual energy credit for either propane or PG&E.  Amount varies by income qualification. 

            Senior Nutrition Services provides meals for seniors (over 60) at Senior Dining Centers and Home Delivered Meals.  You must meet income qualifications. 

            Women Infants and Children (WIC) offers nutrition education and supplemental foods.  You must meet income qualifications.  Call (530) 621-6176 for more information. 

2.  Food Stamps is a Federally funded program that helps low-income families buy the food they need for good health.  The Placerville Office is located at 3057 Briw Road.  You must meet income qualifications.  Call (530) 642-7300 for further information.  Applications can be returned to the El Dorado County Department of Human Services. (Above)  You may apply over the phone. 

3.  Homebound Senior Staples Program   This program enables a volunteer to deliver an allotment of perishable and non-perishable items to your home on a monthly basis.  The food is unprepared and not the same program as “Meals on Wheels.”  To participate in this program you must meet income guidelines, live in El Dorado County and be a homebound senior.  Contact the Food Bank at (530) 621-9950 to request an application and to enroll in this program. 

4.  Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) REACH is a one-time energy-assistance program sponsored by PG&E and administered through the Salvation Army.  Those who have experienced an uncontrollable or unforeseen emergency may receive an energy credit up to $200, credit amount based on the past due amount of the bill.  REACH assistance may be available once in an 18 month period, but exceptions can be made for seniors, the physically challenged and the terminally ill.  Contact the Salvation Army at 1-800-933-9677. 

5.  Assistance programs through PG&E;

Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) You may apply for a monthly discount on your energy bill through the FERA Program if your family meets the income eligibility requirements.  See attached eligibility chart.  Call PG&E at 1-800-PGE-5000 for more information. 

Medical Baseline Allowance   Get additional quantities of energy at the lowest price for residential customers.  A California-licensed physician must certify that a full time resident meets the medical requirements.  Call PG&E at 1-866-743-2273 for more information. 

California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE)   You can apply for a monthly discount on your energy bill through the CARE program if your household meets the income eligibility requirements.  See attached eligibility chart.  Call PG&E at 1-866-743-2273 for more information.   

Energy Partners Program   The Energy Partners Program provides free energy education, weatherization measures and energy-efficient appliances to reduce gas and electric usage to households that meet the income requirements.  See attached eligibility chart.  Call PG&E at 1-800-933- 9555 for more information. 

6.  California Public Utilities Commission, California Lifeline   Receive discounted basic residential (landline) telephone service.  You qualify if your total household income is less than;
