Can YOU Help Ethaniel's Family?

Please click on the thumbnail photo below to find out how you can help the family of one of Grizzly Pines Elementary School's teachers, Tanis Haboush.  Tanis normally teaches grades 3-5 at Grizzly Pines and Tim, her husband, teaches 7th grade Social Studies and Language Arts as well as 8th grade PE at Mountain Creek Middle School.

Early this school year, the Haboushes found out that their three-year-old son, Ethaniel, had a rare form of Leukemia.  Since October of 2007, Ethaniel has been receiving intensive chemotherapy treatments and with proper treatment, has an 80-85% chance for complete recovery.

As a result of her son's illness, Tanis has taken extended time off from her teaching job to be home with him.  As you can imagine, medical expenses on top of being reduced to one income has created a financial hardship for his beloved family.  Click on the photo below to learn more:

It is with immeasurable sadness that I report that Belle, the noble white lab with sky blue eyes who had for years kept wild animals at bay from the Grizzly Flat Road, Mt Pleasant area, was struck by a car just before sunrise on Monday, August 18th.  She was kind, gentle and streetwise, but completely terrified of humans.

We started feeding her around 4 years ago when she was little more than fur and bones.  In all that time, we only ever touched her one time, which was when we managed to get her caged and took her to Crossroads to have her spayed.  She was always so thrilled to see us come home and would dance excitedly when we would drive up, but immediately bolt as soon as we were out of the car.

Three years ago, she gave birth to 5 puppies.  While in labor, she dug a hole in the woods near our house and birthed her babies there.  She was a tremendously devoted and loving mother.  We kept 3 of her puppies and found homes for the other two.  Every day, she would come to our fence to see her kids and they would run up and down the fence and play together for hours.

She loved stuffed toys and after she was spayed, dug a small hole in our front yard and put 2-3 of them in there and would sleep with them just as she did with her babies when they were little.

To my knowledge, she never hurt anyone or was anything but a loving, gentle and very protective presence.   She was extremely road savvy and a car must have been really flying down these roads to have managed to hit her.  Her leg was badly broken and I wish to give my deepest regards and thanks to Donald Cherry who, when awakened by my call at 5:30am, was here in record time and very kindly and respectfully took care of her before the high school kids were due to arrive at that bus stop for the morning.

My heart aches for the neighborhood's loss and for the horrible pain she endured in the 90 minutes or so before her death all because someone absolutely had to tear down this road at 4:30-5:00 in the morning instead of driving reasonably.

Animal Control was unable to respond.

 Burger Nights!

Fridays from now through August 29th, 6pm at Fire Station  on Sciaroni.  August 1st will be spaghetti night  and on the last night, pit roasted pork and turkey will be served, along with ice cream sundaes.  The guys will be firing up the grills at 6pm to start the cooking. They will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, polish sausages and veggie burgers. The buffet line will have the usual fare: chips, salads, melon, cookies, Maxine's chili beans, lemonade and iced tea.

G FORCE is selling Grizzly Flats T shirts to help fund Founder's Day and Lyle Tomlin is providing music for us again this year.

The Burger Night Committee needs volunteers to help set up tables and chairs, and work the food line!  To help, just show up.  Set up begins at 5:00pm and clean up begins around 7:30pm.

"People who move to Grizzly Flats do so with a 'gangplank' mentality.  'Now that I'm here, PULL IN THAT GANG PLANK AND DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE IN!'"
